PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Mayor Angel Taveras will give his 2013 state of the city address Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
In his first address last year, Taveras repeated his plea for tax-exempt institutions and Providence retirees to help the city with its financial woes. At its worst, the state capital had a $110-million structural deficit and was near bankruptcy.
All targeted hospitals and universities have since agreed to give more money. Retirees and current firefighters and police officers have also agreed to significant pension cuts. And the administration says the structural deficit is now less than $5 million.
This year's speech will be delivered in the City Council chambers on the third floor, and it will be streamed on the city's website.
