JAMESTOWN, R.I. -- The Beavertail Museum Lighthouse Association will be renovating and expanding its facility, the organization announced Monday in a news release.
The van Beuren Charitable Foundation of Newport has awarded the association a $112,000 grant, which will be used to repair a brick staircase, improve handicap access and install a new mini theater and interactive computer exhibits for the visitors center.
In addition, the lighthouse museum will be expanded 1,150 square feet, into the first floor of the Keeper House.
The association reports the most of the work on its facility will be performed this year. The museum will remain open for most of that time.
