CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. -- City Hall opened for business on Thursday, four days after a pipe burst in the City Council chambers causing at least $100,000 in damage.
The Finance Department and Tax Assessor's office have been moved from the first floor to the third floor and about 75 residents and merchants dropped in to pay their car and tangible property taxes.
Thursday was the deadline for the tangible property taxes.
Gayle A. Corrigan, chief of staff to state-appointed receiver John F. McJennett III, said that the Finance Department and Council Chambers will be shut down until at least March 1. She said that all public hearings with the council and receiver will be held at in the Emergency Management Agency room at the Highway Department, 1280 High St.
