CRANSTON, R.I. -- Liam, a dog that was dodging traffic and Westport's animal control officer for weeks in Massachusetts until he was found last Thursday in a garage with gunshot wounds and a broken leg, is recovering at Handsome Dan's Rescue for Pit Bull Type Dogs.
Liam, so named because "St. Patrick's Day is coming up and we thought he'd need a lot of luck," is still in pain and not granting interviews, said Heather Gutshall.
"He's crying out sometimes in pain," said Gutshall, who said that within 24 hours the Handsome Dan network of Facebook friends had donated the $4,000 for Liam's care, but "if people would like to make a donation to other dogs in need, we would be grateful."
Liam is spending his five-day quarantine in a pen "with about a thousand comforters," Gutshall said. She and her partner apply warm compresses four times a day and snuggle with him often.
