PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Senate Education Committee will hold hearings Wednesday evening on six of the 11 people appointed by Gov. Chafee to serve on the new Rhode Island Board of Education.
The hearings, which will be held in Room 310 at about 5 p.m., are required by state law before the members can be officially installed on the board.
The appointments are: Michael Bernstein, of East Providence; Colleen A. Callahan, of Cumberland; Michael A. Grande, of Warwick; Patrick Guida, of Barrington; William Maaia, of East Providence; and Lawrence E. Purtill, of Narragansett.
A hearing date to approve the other five appointees, including chairwoman Eva Marie Mancuso, has not yet been scheduled by the Senate, according to a spokesman.
