WARWICK, R.I. -- The city is able to continue slowly growing its savings thanks to a roughly $2 million operating surplus for the fiscal year that ended June 30.
The municipal surplus is detailed in the city's annual audit which was just completed, Mayor Scott Avedisian said Wednesday.
He said that the audit also shows that the School Department posted a surplus of about $2.9 million for the same fiscal year.
The city's operating surplus brings Warwick's savings, or fund balance, to about $8.2 million, Avedisian said.
Regarding the city, Avedisian credited municipal department directors for working hard to live within their budgets and, in some cases, spending less than what was appropriated.
