PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island Interscholastic League has disciplined La Salle Academy and Hope High School after investigating a postgame fight Wednesday night at North Providence High School.
Tom Mezzanotte, executive director, met with officials of both schools and reviewed a security videotape.
"Disciplinary action was taken," he said. Despite repeated requests to elaborate, he declined.
The fight occurred after a Credit Union Boys Basketball Division I Tournament quarterfinal in the corridor outside the locker rooms. Mezzanotte said he was able to identify the players involved from the security video and "disciplinary action was taken."
Mezzanotte did not disclose the names of the individuals or what the penalty is. Possibilities are suspension, reprimand or probation for the basketball programs.
The names of two players from each team are already circulating on Twitter accounts. Without official confirmation from the Interscholastic League or the schools, The Journal will not identify them.
