PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Democrats looked favorably on independent Governor Chafee during this weekend's National Governors Association meeting, which wrapped up Monday.

Chafee and his wife, Stephanie, were among those seated at President Obama's table during Sunday's black-tie dinner at the White House.

Chafee's office sent along a photo of the president posing with Rhode Island's first lady.

Chafee was a co-chair of Mr. Obama's reelection campaign.

Monday morning, Rhode Island's congressional delegation co-hosted a fundraiser in Chafee's honor.

None of the four Democrats, however, attended, and none are explicitly endorsing Chafee for re-election at this point.

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, through a spokesman, said the delegation -- as well as former U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy -- lent their names to the event "in recognition of Governor Chafee's role in helping to elect President Obama in 2008 and 2012."

"The election is a long way off and we're not thinking about that," said Seth M. Klaiman, a spokesman for U.S. Rep. James Langevin.
