CRANSTON, R.I. -- Benjamin Servideo, 24, who was distracted for a second and struck a vehicle driven by the pregnant Sullynette Sanchez, 23, last September, killing her and, two weeks later, the baby taken that day from her womb, was sentenced Tuesday in the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal by Chief Magistrate William Guglietta.
After impact statements from both families, Servideo was sentenced to eight months of loss of license, 100 hours of community service, of which 25 must be performed assisting children, and driver retraining.
Early this month, he pleaded guilty to failure to maintain control and failure to drive at the proper speed given the weather conditions. A third charge of following too closely was dismissed.
