WARWICK, R.I. - - The police say they charged a man with malicious killing of an animal Thursday after concluding that he'd put a pregnant cat in a sealed box, placed her in a bag and put her in his brother's garbage can.

The incident happened August 23.

The brother, Joseph Campbell, who lives on Mohawk Street, around the corner from his brother, heard a noise in his garbage can. Inside the can, he and a neighbor discovered the cat, which was taken to the Warwick animal shelter, but it died, according to Capt. Joseph Coffey. A necropsy revealed the cat had been injured, Coffey said.

The police charged Timothy Campbell, of 16 Huron Street, with malicious killing of an animal, a felony.
