NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) -- More than 40 musical acts and about 10,000 fans a day are expected as the Newport Folk Festival returns to Rhode Island this weekend.
The music starts Friday with a kick-off concert featuring Wilco.
Tickets to Saturday and Sunday's performances sold out three months in advance -- the earliest tickets have sold out since the festival began in 1959.
This year's line-up includes Arlo Guthrie, My Morning Jacket, Jackson Browne and Patty Griffin. Performers with local roots include Deer Tick, Brown Bird and Joe Fletcher and The Wrong Reasons.
Rick Massimo, The Providence Journal's pop music writer, will be at the festival all three days, and will be reviewing for providencejournal.com and the Sunday and Monday newspapers.
