PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Health Director Michael D. Fine has pulled the license of orthopedic surgeon Christopher Huntington after finding the doctor wrote "excessive" and "inappropriate" prescriptions for narcotics.
Fine's summary suspension called the doctor an "immediate threat" to the public. Huntington may request a hearing within 10 days.
The order found that Huntington has a pattern of prescribing narcotics without medical records, without examining the patient, and otherwise without meeting minimal standards and state laws.
The order states that Huntington prescribed oxycodone to three people who shared an address: a 55-year-old man prescribed 6,720 oxycodone tablets over a year plus 720 tablets in four days; a 41-year-old woman prescribed triple the recommended dosage of oxycodone and an 80-year-old man prescribed double the recommended dose.
