PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Joined by four members of the City Council, dozens of workers from the Renaissance and other area hotels marched through the Renaissance lobby on Monday to demand that managers address complaints about the "lack of respect" toward employees and poor working conditions.
The workers, who are not unionized, say that since the Procaccianti Group took over the hotel at the end of December, treatment of workers at the hotel has gone from bad to worse.
Councilman Luis A. Aponte said the hotel has received tax breaks from the state and from the city with the understanding that it would create good-paying jobs. He said he wonders whether the city tax breaks should be revoked.
