CRANSTON, R.I. -- Can Mayor Allan W. Fung refrain from hiking taxes for a second year?
"My goal from the beginning has been to hold the line on expenses, and not raise taxes," Fung said Friday. "While the economy is improving a little, there are still a lot of people hurting out there."
The mayor will present his budget to the City Council Monday at a special 5:45 p.m. meeting at City Hall.
"We'll be working through the weekend," Fung said.
Last year, the City Council adopted Fung's $246.8-million budget with some changes. The plan, which raised spending by less than 1 percent, called for no tax increase.
