SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- The University of Rhode Island's Collaborative for Explorations in Math and Science has won a $640,000 grant to recruit, train and graduate a more diverse group of students from math and technology fields.
The grant, which came from the National Science Foundation, will offer scholarships, coaching and mentoring to minority and female students who major in computer sciences, computer engineering or math. These students are under-represented in the STEM fields.
The collaborative hopes to award 10 to 15 four-year scholarships and four or five three-year scholarships over the grant's lifetime.
