PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A dozen local educators have called on the state Board of Education to create a 13-person committee to review the new teacher evaluations.
Chariho teacher Bob Mayne submitted a letter to the board that states the evaluation is "not a true measure of an educator's effectiveness."
"It is extremely critical," he wrote, "that teachers and administrators have confidence in the system, something we believe, in talking with teachers in our own districts and across the state, is currently not the case."
In February, more than 5,000 educators signed a petition asking the state Department of Education to slow down the evaluation process until what they called a fair and measurable system could be created.
