Today in RI history: West Greenwich police officer rescues woman from burning car

A year ago today:
A 6-year-old boy is pulled from the water at Lincoln Woods State Park and pronounced dead. A spokeswoman for the Department of Environmental Management said the child could have had "a previous medical issue."

5 years ago today:
West Greenwich Police Officer Donald Fravala uses a fire extinguisher and rescues Tammie M. Ferro, 39, of Foster, from her burning car after the vehicle veers off Congdon Mill Road and flips over in woods.

25 years ago today:
The Globe Manufacturing Co. of Fall River has been fined $250,000 by the state for allegedly emitting excessive amounts of toxic chemicals into the air. The fine is the largest civil penalty in an air pollution case in Massachusetts.
