PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- An education group led by a Central Falls resident has paid $2 million for the vacant Tockwotton Home in Fox Point for use as a boarding school for Chinese students.
Roosevelt International Academy prepares Chinese nationals for entry into American colleges and universities. Central Falls resident Benjamin Ben Tre is founder and managing partner of Roosevelt, which operates out of 4 Richmond Square in Providence.
Ben Tre's academy will set up in the 48,500-square-foot brick building at 75 East St. overlooking Route 195 and India Point.
"Although the residents of Tockwotton will now be children rather than the lederly, we feel that its new use as an international education facility is consistent with the historical ethos of the Tockwotton organization.
The Tockwotton Home served as a residence for the elderly for 157 years before the organization moved in January 2013 to a newly constructed five-story building across the Seekonk River in East Providence.
