WARWICK, R.I. - - The body of a male was discovered Monday morning in a rowboat near the Apponaug Cove marina, according to the Warwick police chief.
Chief Col. Stephen M. McCartney said that the death does not appear suspicious, although the medical examiner has not examined the body. He said there were no obvious signs of trauma.
McCartney said the man apparently was stricken while he was in the rowboat. The boat was spotted about 300 yards off shore, across from the Crow's Nest restaurant. The Fire Department sent out a rescue boat, and firefighters found the man dead, according to the chief. The report came in at 10:45 a.m.
McCartney said the man was known to people in the marina. The police are withholding his name pending notification of next of kin.
The chief said the discovery of the body has nothing to do with the search for a teen off Conimicut Point.
