PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Providence's Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence is highlighting its street intervention programs for officials from Newark, N.J., and Chicago.
The institute on Thursday and Friday is hosting officials from the cities as well as from John Jay College for Criminal Justice in New York.
The institute says the delegation will go on a ride-along with nonviolence street workers, meet with members of the institute's gang-involved employment program and talk to community members and police about what initiatives are working and what obstacles they face.
They also expect to discuss how to address gaps in existing street intervention efforts in Newark and Chicago.
The institute has been nationally recognized for its work to reduce gang-related violence in Rhode Island.
