The Health Department has suspended the license of a licensed practical nurse who was caught on hidden camera allegedly abusing a 9-year-old disabled child.
Kimberly Faneuf, 46, of 74 Bryant St., Cumberland, was arrested Friday by Cranston police and charged with assault on person with severe impairments, according to police. She was released and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 7.
Meanwhile, in an emergency action, Health Director Michael D. Fine on Monday suspended her license. Both agencies that employed Faneuf have fired her, according to Fine's order.
According to police reports, the boy's parents left him in Faneuf's care and went out to dinner on July 29. The boy has multiple medical conditions that prevent him from speaking or moving.
The parents had placed a hidden video camera in the boy's bedroom that was accessible by mobile phone. While at dinner, they watched through their phone as Faneuf grabbed, shook and twisted the boy's arm, repeatedly sat him upright and then let go so he slammed onto his back, covered his mouth with a cloth while wiping his face and otherwise handled him roughly, according to police.
The parents returned home and confronted Faneuf, who left without explaining or denying her actions, according to police reports referenced in Fine's order. They took the boy to Hasbro Children's Hospital, where a physician documented a bump on his head, a bruise on his wrist, a red area around his eye and possible recent bleeding in his mouth. He did not have major injuries and was taken back home.
