PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence Journal won the Sevellon Brown Award for public service for its "Reinvent Rhode Island" series about the state's economy, and 17 other awards, in the 2012 New England Associated Press News Executives Association contest, the AP announced Friday.
Sevellon Brown, whom the award is named after, edited The Journal from 1953 to 1968.
Winners will be honored during a conference Sept. 14 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.
