NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -- A professor of oceanography at the University of Rhode Island has been appointed to a White House post, a URI news release said.
S. Bradley Moran, a professor at URI's Graduate School of Oceanography, will become the assistant director for ocean sciences in The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Executive Office of the President, the news release said.
Moran will implement federal ocean science policy and help agencies work together on ocean science and resources. He will also serve as co-chairman of the National Science and Technology Council's Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology.
The Kingston resident has been on leave from his URI position since January 2012 to serve as a program director at the National Science Foundation, where he administered about $25 million in chemical oceanography research grants.
