PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- State tax returns and payments that would have been due Wednesday, Oct. 31, will instead be due Nov. 7, officials at the Rhode Island Division of Taxation announced in a news release.
Taxpayers, business owners and tax practitioners affected by Hurricane Sandy will get "some extra time to file the required returns and pay the required tax," said David M. Sullivan, the state tax administrator, citing extended power failures, flooding and other effects of the storm. "It's the least we can do."
The extension applies to the third wage and tax report for 2012 for unemployment insurance tax (also known as the Employment Security, or ES, tax) the Job Development Fund tax; and the state Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) tax withheld from employees' wages.
