CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. -- The candidates battling to be the next mayor of Central Falls will participate in fundraisers tonight at The Madeira Club in the city's north end.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras will host a fundraiser for James A. Diossa, the young Latino candidate, on the main floor of the social club from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $250, $100 and $50.
In the basement of the same building, Joseph P. Moran III, the former police chief, will have his own fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m.
Moran, 50, expressed surprise that Diossa had tickets going for $250 and $100 in the state's poorest city. He said that kind of money is more suited for the governor's race, not for a mayoral candidate in a city that has just emerged from bankruptcy.
