CRANSTON, R.I. -- The state has shut down two private elevators after repeated requests for their owners to fix violations.

The elevators are at 55 Bradford St., Providence and 641 Bald Hill Rd., Warwick.

In October, the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training sent out notices to owners of 46 elevators for which violations had not been addressed, giving them 30 days to comply. By Monday, only two had not, the one in Providence for machine room issues and the one in Warwick for a pit issue, a news release said.

The state requires all 3,338 elevators to be inspected annually.

To report an issue with an elevator, escalator, moving walk, wheelchair lift or related device, call (401) 462-8570.
