CRANSTON, R.I. -- A woman allegedly drinking to celebrate her 31st birthday is accused of clawing her teenage son bloody with her newly manicured nails.
Wanda Wheeler, of 330 Narragansett St., Apt. 1, was charged with second-degree child abuse. Her son was treated at Hasbro Children's Hospital Wednesday night for deep scratches on his face, neck and chest.
The boy told Cranston Police Officer Bretton Robbins that he was afraid of his mother, and asked his stepbrother's mother to take them to her residence in Providence, police said.
Wheeler arrived with Providence police and accused the relative of kidnapping, the report said, adding the boy was released to his mother, who attacked him in her car.
Wheeler was arraigned Thursday and released on recognizance.
