PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Opponents of the tolls planned for the new Sakonnet River Bridge will have a new venue on Monday and Tuesday nights at a pair of public meetings on the bridge's environmental impact.
The state Department of Transportation has scheduled the pair of "workshops," both at 7 p.m., on Monday at Portsmouth High School and on Tuesday at Tiverton High School.
The opponents say they plan to turn out in the hope of influencing Governor Chafee and the General Assembly to abandon the toll plan.
"I hope we will soften him up" with a show of strength at the meetings, Jeane Smith, one of the organizers, said.
