PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A senior adviser to Governor Chafee is leaving state government for a top post at one of the state's largest non-profit human service agency, Chafee's administration announced Thursday.
Stephen R. Hourahan's last day will be Jan. 4, according to Chafee spokesman Christian Vareika. Hourahan's current salary is $160,628, not including benefits.
Hourahan, who had left Family Service of Rhode Island in 2009 to join Chafee's gubernatorial campaign, will return to Family Service as chief advancement officer, the governor's office said in a news release. Among his duties will be to lead the nonprofit's marketing and fundraising efforts, the governor's office said.
Hourahan had also worked for the governor's father, the late Sen. John Chafee, in various capacities.
"Stephen has been a trusted adviser and friend to the Chafee family for many years," Governor Chafee said in a news release. "Although he has decided to return to Family Service of Rhode Island, an organization about which he is extremely passionate, Stephen will remain a trusted friend and adviser in an informal capacity."
